Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha bypolls: Considered to be litmus test for BJP and SP-BSP combine, the crucial bypoll for Gorakhpur and Phulpur Lok Sabha constituencies witnessed a very low turnout on Sunday. Primary reason for the lesser turnaout was said to be little interest among voters as they are now looking forward to Lok Sabha elections 2019. Among the highlights, Yogi Adityanath, who vacated Gorakhpur seat to become state chief minister last year, cast his vote and exuded confidence of winning the elections in his bastion. His deputy, Keshav Prasad Maurya also cast his vote in Phulpur. In Gorakhpur, only 47 per cent of the voters exercised their franchise, while in Phulpur, 38 per cent turnout was recorded. In two seats, the state recorded an overall polling of 42 per cent in the seats. Speaking to media after casting his vote, Adityanath said that development is the only panacea. The UP CM further termed the elections as a rehearsal for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. The BJP has fielded Kaushalendra Singh Patel from Phulpur and Upendra Dutt Shukla from Gorakhpur. SP nominated Pravin Nishad in Phulpur and Nagendra Pratap Singh Patel in Gorakhpur. The Congress candidates are Sureetha Kareem for…

No threat to Modi government: Why YSRC, TDP’s no-confidence motion may not pass Parliament test
Narendra Modis Bharatiya Janata Party, which came to power in 2014 with an absolute majority of 282 seats, is all set to face its first no-confidence motion. The party, now reduced to 274 MPs due to the demise of several of its MPs, requires 272 votes to pass the trust vote. For Opposition, six parties – Congress, Samajwadi Party, Aam Aadmi Party, Telugu Desam Party, and Trinamool Congress (a part of the NDA), have already indicated their support for the no-confidence motion that the YSR Congress Party and the Telugu Desam Party have vowed against the Centre. However, BJPs big trouble comes from Shiv Sena, its largest ally which may vote against the government. Other NDA constituents are less in numbers and are unlikely to make much of a difference. These parties include Ram Vilas Paswans Lok Jan Shakti party with 6 members, Shiromani Akali Dali with 4 members, RLSP 3, and JDU and Apna Dal with 2 members each. Still, minus Shiv Sena, the current NDA flock sums up to a number over 290 seats. On Friday, as soon as the news of a number of parties started turning into a trend, a number of speculations started doing rounds…

Congress-mukt Bharat not the language of RSS: Mohan Bhagwat denounces BJP’s battle cry
Underlining the RSSs inclusive character, its chief Mohan Bhagwat today said slogans like Congress-mukt Bharat were mere political phrases and not part of the language of the Sangh. Top brass of the BJP, which considers the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as its ideological mentor, has often talked about a Congress-free India. These are political slogans. It is not the language of the RSS. The word mukt (free or liberated) is used in politics. We never use the language of excluding anyone. We have to include everyone in the process of nation building including those who oppose us, Bhagwat said at a book launch function here. Speaking in parliament in February, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said he was pursuing Mahatma Gandhis dream of a Congress-mukt Bharat and accused the grand old party of eulogising the Gandhi family when in power, at the cost of the countrys development. Bhagwat was in the city to launch six books written by Dnyaneshwar Mulay, a 1983-batch Indian Foreign Service officer, who is currently secretary (Consular, Passport, Visa and Overseas Indian Affairs) in the Ministry of External Affairs. Multinational companies hold a positive view towards expanding their Asia Pacific office portfolio over the next two years and India remains one of the most preferred markets, says a survey. In India, Bangalore has emerged as the most preferred city for office expansion, according to a survey by real estate consulting firm, CBRE South Asia. In India, multinationals are focusing on expanding in Bangalore and smaller cities across the country, but have limited growth plans in the Delhi NCR and Mumbai, CBRE said in its CBRE Asia Pacific Occupier Survey 2018. CBRE India head (GWS and asset services), Rajesh Pandit, said with each year, the country further establishes itself as one of the worlds most attractive markets for expanding occupiers. The strategies of multinationals to occupy more office space in Bangalore and emerging cities are testament to this fact, he added. The survey said occupiers are also taking greater advantage of wider workplace options to drive business performance and attract talent, but will continue to rely on landlord partnerships. Irrespective of whether occupiers are increasing or reducing space requirements, across Asia Pacific they are poised to commit more flexible corporate real estate solutions to align with company goals, according to…

Five of the eight JNU students, who have accused a senior professor of molestation, on Wednesday said they did not report the incidents of molestation to the universitys anti-harassment committee because the panel is full of supporters of the highly influential teacher. A day after Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) teacher Atul Johri, was arrested and released on bail, the five students told reporters that they were being pressured to withdraw their complaints. As the questions were being raised why the accusers did not report their complaints to the universitys Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), the students said they did not have faith in the panel whose members are all close associates of Atul Johri.
