Trivendra Singh Rawat exclusive: ‘Our work against corruption is evident,’ says Uttarakhand CM on 1 year of BJP government
Uttrakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat recently marked the first anniversary of his government on a grand scale. In large advertisements in newspapers and lengthy television commercials, the Rawat government claimed that a lot has already been achieved in the past one year. The government has also presented its first complete budget of Rs 45,000 crore (approx). Amid all the pomp and show, it still needs to be checked how much the 56 MLA-strong Rawat government has actually delivered on ground. The assembly elections held in 2017 saw the Bharatiya Janata party return to power with a thumping majority, decimating the Congress which was limited to 11 out of 70 seats. The Congress tally reduced by 21 seats while the BJP gained 26. The stakes were obviously high for the BJP and for Trivendra Singh Rawat who took charge at the helm of affairs in Uttarakhand, a state that has traditionally voted for an alternate party to power in each election. As Rawat government completes one year in office, the Chief Minister has his hands full. And the first-time Chief Minister says he isnt shying away from any of it. In an exclusive conversation with Financialexpress.com, the Uttarakhand CM said…

Congress-mukt Bharat not the language of RSS: Mohan Bhagwat denounces BJP’s battle cry
Underlining the RSSs inclusive character, its chief Mohan Bhagwat today said slogans like Congress-mukt Bharat were mere political phrases and not part of the language of the Sangh. Top brass of the BJP, which considers the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as its ideological mentor, has often talked about a Congress-free India. These are political slogans. It is not the language of the RSS. The word mukt (free or liberated) is used in politics. We never use the language of excluding anyone. We have to include everyone in the process of nation building including those who oppose us, Bhagwat said at a book launch function here. Speaking in parliament in February, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said he was pursuing Mahatma Gandhis dream of a Congress-mukt Bharat and accused the grand old party of eulogising the Gandhi family when in power, at the cost of the countrys development. Bhagwat was in the city to launch six books written by Dnyaneshwar Mulay, a 1983-batch Indian Foreign Service officer, who is currently secretary (Consular, Passport, Visa and Overseas Indian Affairs) in the Ministry of External Affairs. Naresh Agarwal’s remark draws all-round condemnation: From Sushma Swaraj, Smriti Irani to Harsimrat Badal, here is who said what
Naresh Agarwals remark draws all-round condemnation: Former SP leader Naresh Agarwal could have avoided the backlash for belittling actor-politician Jaya Bachchan had he thought twice before he said what he did. Moments after joining the BJP, Naresh Agarwal triggered a controversy by calling actor-turned-politician Jaya Bachchan a mere film dancer. On Monday (March 12), Naresh Agarwal, in a press conference, announced quitting the SP and joining hands with the BJP. While explaining the reason behind joining the saffron party, he said that he wasnt happy with the coalition tricks of SP and went on to say that the partys choice of a mere film dancer (apparently targetted at Jaya Bachchan) for Rajya Sabha over him was a bad decision by the Akhilesh Yadav led party. While sitting alongside senior BJP leader and railway minister Piyush Goyal, Naresh Agarwal said, That is even more painful. After drawing flak, Naresh Agarwal, on Tuesday, stopped short of apologising saying his comments were taken otherwise by the media. He added that he is regretful if his comments have hurt the sentiments of anyone. Here is how the politicos reacted on Naresh Agarwals mere dancer jibe at Jaya Bachchan – Sushma Swaraj – She was…

Trouble in JDU-BJP paradise? Here’s why Bihar CM Nitish Kumar won’t part ways with Narendra Modi yet
All does not appear to be hunky dory between Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the Bharatiya Janata Party. Months after Nitish Kumars Janata Dal (United) dumped the Grand Alliance, throwing Lalu Yadavs Rashtriya Janata Dal out of power in the state, to return to the NDA fold, speculation is rife of the JD(U) being unhappy with the Centre over a number of reasons. Prime Minister Narendra Modis lavish praise for the CM at his Motihari visit on Tuesday may suggest otherwise, but reports claim that the JD(U) is unhappy with its absence in the Modi government at the Centre. The alleged communal remarks by certain Union ministers from Bihar after the Assembly Elections have also added fuel to the fire. So, will the situation mark another turn of fortunes for the powers that be in Bihar. Not so soon, sources say. According to a report in The Indian Express citing sources, Nitish Kumars party is unlikely to follow examples such as those of the Telugu Desam Party which pulled out of the NDA or the Shiv Sena that announced contesting elections on its own. The Nitish Kumar government has no intention of parting ways from the BJP. And there…

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) which has been on a nationwide march from February 25 to deprecate the current form of the National Medical Commission Bill will hold a Mahapanchayat on March 25. The IMA has strongly opposed the draft Bill that seeks to replace the Medical Council of India with a new body, claiming it will cripple the medical profession. The bill, which has the potential to adversely alter the course of medical education and healthcare delivery in India, will also make irrevocable damage if passed in its current forms, IMAs general secretary Dr R N Tandon said. Cutting across party lines, the members of Parliament have also voiced their concern and opposition towards the bill, which has now been referred to the standing committee. SC/ST Act: BJP president Amit Shah accuses his Congress counterpart Rahul Gandhi of inciting hatred in society
BJP president Amit Shah today accused his Congress counterpart Rahul Gandhi of inciting hatred in society with his lie that the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act has been revoked. Shah, who is on a tour of Odisha, tagged on Twitter a short video of a Gandhis speech in which he is heard telling people in a rally that atrocities against Dalits and tribals are rising and the SC\/ST act is revoked. Narendra Modi ji does not say a word. Hitting back, Shah said, Lies and only Lies! See how Rahul Gandhi fictitiously revokes the SC\/ST Act to incite hatred in society. A recent ruling by the Supreme Court on the Act, which, several Dalit groups say, has diluted the law, had triggered protests with the opposition parties accusing the government of not doing enough. The government has moved the apex court seeking a review of its March 20 judgement on the Act, while the BJP has charged the opposition with playing politics over the sensitive issue. At least 11 persons were killed in the violent protests during Bharat Bandh called by Dalit groups on Monday against the courts ruling. With the Dalit vote swings holding key to the…
Rare alliance! BJP, Congress come together to rule district council in Mizoram
The BJP is all set to rule the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) in Mizoram with the support of six Congress members after the election threw a fractured mandate, a top state BJP leader said. The CADC is an autonomous council for ethnic Chakma people living in South-Western Mizoram bordering Bangladesh and Myanmar. Joining of hands by traditional rivals, the BJP and the Congress, is an interesting political event. The BJP leader said the saffron party, with five members in the CADC, would head the district council formed under the sixth schedule of the Constitution in 1972. State Sports Minister and Congress leader Zodintluanga had said on April 25 that a post-poll alliance was forged after local leaders of both the parties reached an agreement, and this would not have any bearing in Delhi or in the coming election to the assembly in the north eastern state. BJP sources had, at that time, said the party may take action against its elected CADC members for forging the alliance with the Congress. Later, the party leadership agreed to the tie-up after the six Congress members decided to join the coalition, the United Legislature party (ULP), as individual members leaving their party…

Narendra Modi Government has ensured inclusive growth: Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi
The Narendra Modi government has ensured inclusive growth in the country, Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said today. During the last four years, the Modi government has ensured inclusive growth in the country. The atmosphere of development ushered in by the Modi government is against the culture of those people who had been following the policy of political exploitation, the Minority Affairs Minister said. Despite difficulties, the agenda of development has dominated while that of destruction has been defeated during the Modi governments four-year tenure, he said, speaking at a college event in adjoining Panvel. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has established marks of success by removing the marks of failures left by the previous government, he said. Instead of blaming dilapidated economic system inherited from the previous regime, the Modi government has worked for development of the country and as a result, India has become a strong global economy, he said.
