A fast-track court on Wednesday awarded life imprisonment to 11 people who were convicted for lynching a meat trader in June last year. The trader was killed over suspicion that he was carrying beef in his car. Judge Om Prakash had on Friday found the 11 people guilty under various sections of the IPC. The 11 people were booked under charges including 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting with deadly weapons) and 149 (unlawful assembly). Alimuddin Ansari, 40, was lynched to death in Bazaar Tand locality of Ramgarh town on June 29, 2017. The group of people first stopped the car and then thrashed Ansari on the suspicion that he was carrying beef in his car. However, forensic tests confirmed that the meat he was carrying was beef. The sale of beef is banned in the state. Speaking to media, Additional Public Prosecutor SK Sukla said there were 12 accused in total, and one of them is a minor. In another shocking case of student suicide, a 21-year-old student of Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, ended his life by hanging himself from the ceiling fan in his hostel room on Friday morning. He lived in the Nilgiri Boys hostel but was a resident of Hoogli in West Bengal. The student who was in his first year in the prestigious institution and was pursuing Masters of Science in Chemistry. A Delhi court today granted bail to a senior advocate, who is an accused in the Election Commission bribery case involving AIADMK (Amma) faction leader T T V Dhinakaran. Special judge Arvind Kumar granted bail to Chennai-based B Kumar and asked him to furnish a personal bond of Rs 50,000 and two sureties of the like amount. Dhinakaran was also present in the court following summons issued against him last month. The Income Tax department has also moved an application to examine Sukesh Chandrashekhar, an alleged middleman, who is presently in judicial custody. The government has notified a fresh set of draft rules to curb prevention of cruelty to animals, substantially diluting the norms unveiled in May last year that crippled the cattle trade and temporarily hit India The draft Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Animal Markets Rules, 2018, released by the ministry of environment on March 24 omitted the word The new draft, however, merely says that The draft rules also toned down clauses on preventing cruelty and rules for markets in border areas. The public could give feedback to the draft in 30 days, after which the final rules will be notified. The proposed rules, however, retain the provisions relating to the constitution of a committee that will be entrusted with the task of certifying new animal markets, maintain record of animal sales and ensure good living conditions in markets. The committee will have the power to implement the law under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Animal Markets Rules, 2018. Delhi Police have arrested a Taekwondo teacher for performing obscene acts before a woman, ANI reported today. A complaint against the accused was earlier lodged by a 28-year-old woman with the police. The woman had complained that the man rang the doorbell of her house in Vasant Kunj on Thursday night and started doing obscene acts while talking to her. After noticing what the man was doing, the woman raised her voice to call her friend. The man ran away from the spot soon after. A who ran a fake Additional Regional Transport Office (ARTO) by hacking the website of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) from a shop here in Indirapuram was arrested on Thursday, police said. Acting on a tip, the police arrested the man who was impersonating as the Regional Transport Officer in Ghaziabad and seized cash, fake seals, a laptop, a printer and fake tax receipts from him. Superintendent of Police Akash Tomar said the police sent a decoy to get his vehicles clearance by paying road tax. As the decoy paid money, the man opened the website and issued a receipt, put a seal and handed over the cash receipt to him. He was immediately arrested. The man revealed his identity as Manoj, a resident of Ghaziabad. Will extend loan waiver to farmers who were left out in 2008, says Maharashtra CM Fadnavis
Farmers in Maharashtra who were left out of the 2008 loan waiver announced by the then government would be brought under the ambit of the last years scheme, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis told the Legislative Assembly today. Farmers who failed to repay loans during 2001-09 and could not avail the benefit of the 2008 loan waiver scheme will be included in the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Shetkari Sanman Yojana-CSMSSY (announced in June last by the BJP-led state government), the chief minister said. India and France have decided to set up a joint working group to institutionalise cooperation in conservation of environment, Union Minister Harsh Vardhan has said. The environment minister held delegation-level talks with Brune Poirson, French Minister of State for Ecological and Inclusive Transition, who is the part of a team led by President Emmanuel Macron on cooperation in the field of conservation of environment and biodiversity.
