How will SP-BSP pact spoil Narendra Modi’s 2019 gameplan in Uttar Pradesh? Akhilesh Yadav explains
Notwithstanding the speculation on the durability of the new-found alliance with one-time rival BSP, Samajwadi Party chief and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav says the 23-year-old acrimony with Mayawati and her party is a thing of past. All that is irrelevant now is that both parties are walking ahead, hand in hand, to achieve a larger national objective of defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is detrimental to both the state and the nation, Yadav said in an interview to IANS. In a detailed interview after the stunning defeat the Samajwadi Party dealt to the BJP by trouncing it in Gorakhpur and Phulpur Lok Sabha byelections, seats held earlier by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his deputy Keshav Prasad Maurya, Yadav said that the BSP-SP combine was like a glue which will knock the daylights off the arrogant and useless BJP government. The BJP, the 44-year-old leader added, would often ridicule how the opposition had no narrative to take on the saffron camp. He pointed out that with the coming together of the BSP and SP, the narrative had finally arrived. What about the bitterness that enveloped the relations between Mayawati and his own father, Mulayam Singh…

Yashwant Sinha’s exit from BJP: Is this an earth-shaking event for saffron Party?
Yashwant Sinhas departure from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is an event which ranks as low on the political Richter scale as the entrances of S.M. Krishna or Rita Bahuguna Joshi in the saffron outfit from the Congress. All these individuals are has-beens in the political world whose comings and goings are of greater interest to themselves than to the general public. One reason for the latters disinterest is that these departures and arrivals are not seen to be driven by ideological considerations, but by personal factors like ego which makes them look for new pastures to overcome the feeling of being neglected by their old parties. Age is another aspect, especially in the cases of Yashwant Sinha and S.M. Krishna. They can even be mocked on this count as Finance Minister Arun Jaitley did when he described Sinha as an 80-year-old job applicant when the former finance and external affairs minister of the Atal Behari Vajpayee government started criticising the party. Not surprisingly, the BJP has now lambasted Sinha for singing the Congresss tune. Ever since he started acting like a dissident along with Arun Shourie and Shatrughan Sinha, the trio has been seen as renegades although they were…

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is learning this hard these days. Kejriwal is on an apology spree in a bid to correct past statements that have mounted a number of defamation cases against him. There are still 14 cases of defamation, overall 30 cases, against the Delhi chief minister. Among all the cases, the biggest case facing Kejriwal is the one filed against him by Union Finance minister Arun Jaitley. In 2015, Kejriwal had made corruption allegations against Jaitley. The Delhi CM and a few other AAP leaders had accused the Union minister of committing financial irregularities while serving as the DDCA chief between 2000 and 2013.
