Three days after supporting Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Debs claims that the Internet existed in the days of Mahabharata, the states Governor Tathagata Roy today said what he had meant was there was a possibility of something of that sort. See, I have not said that there was Internet at that time, Roy told reporters here. I had merely stated this is a thing what we are trying to find out. Unless there was a prototype of something of that sort at that time it was not possible, to conceive such a thing, he said. In his April 17 tweet, Roy said, Tripura Chief Ministers observations about the happenings of the puranic period are topical. It is virtually impossible to conceive of devices like Divya Drishti, puspaka Ratha, etc without some kind of prototype and study there on. The Tripura chief minister had claimed that the Internet and sophisticated satellite communication system existed in the days of Mahabharata, drawing ridicule from his opponents, academicians and social media users who termed his contention as unscientific, illogical and retrogressive. Roy said people did not imagine mobile phones in the 1960s as there was no prototype of cellphones at that time. So,…

Khadse then went deep into the statistics and calculated that…
UN’s peace building efforts struggling due to inadequate funding: India
Highlighting that funds available for UNs peacebuilding efforts are barely one per cent of the annual peacekeeping budget, India has told a high-level meeting here that UNs peace building efforts are struggling due to inadequate funding, a result of genuine political will. The concept of peacebuilding, that expanded the focus to post conflict situations and led to the establishment of UNs peacebuilding architecture around a decade ago, is struggling due to lack of adequate funding that betrays a lack of genuine political will, Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs A Gitesh Sarma said in his address to the high-level meeting on peacebuilding and Sustaining Peace at the UN General Assembly yesterday. Sarma said while peacekeeping, the flagship activity of the UN, has been largely successful in containing inter-state conflict situations, its limitations in tackling chronic intra-state armed conflict situations, notwithstanding large-scale deployment of troops and other resources, are obvious. He pointed out that the funds available for UN peacebuilding efforts are not even 1 per cent of the annual budget for UN peacekeeping. In this context, India welcomed the specific financing options presented by Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in his report. These need to be examined seriously to address…

Why Venkaiah Naidu rejected impeachment notice against CJI Dipak Misra: Here’s what Rajya Sabha Chairman said in his order
In a big jolt to the Congress and Opposition parties, Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu on Monday rejected the notice to impeach Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra citing lack of substantial merit in it. Vice President Naidu made his decision after holding extensive consultations with top legal and constitutional experts, including former chief justices and judges, before taking the decision, sources told PTI. In his order, Naidu said in that he had detailed personal conversation on all the aspects arising from the notice, adding that he had considered each of the allegations made in it individually as well as collectively. Congress demands probe into business interests of Piyush Goyal’s family
The Congress today demanded the immediate sacking of Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, alleging that his family has business interests in companies that are in default. It demanded a judicial investigation by a sitting Supreme Court judge to see if there was conflict of interest. Congress leader Pawan Khera said at a press conference that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi talks of probity, he is silent on Goyals family investments, which have not been made public by him despite holding a public position. He alleged that Goyals wife owned a company that started with Rs one lakh capital and has made profits to the tune of Rs 30,000 crore in 10 years, which was akin to the Jay Shah model of investment where the companys turnover grew multiple times during the Modi Government. The truth is that position of Piyush Goyal stands compromised leaving it untenable for him to continue as a Union Cabinet Minister. He should be forthwith sacked and a judicial investigation be ordered through a sitting Supreme Court Judge, he told reporters.. The Congress leader alleged that layers of common corporate ownership, unprecedented rise in profits and earnings and similar pattern of other companies owned by another business…

In this case the witnesses were attacked, one was killed. The victim and her father were threatened, they were forced to leave their home. They were displaced. But today their fight for justice has been vindicated. What is worse is that this godman used the bhakti of these followers to abuse their believes, said CPI (M) Politburo member Brinda Karat. The time has come when people should be able to differentiate between the actual saints and the frauds, as this creates a bad image of the country in the international arena, Congress leader Ashok Gehlot said.
